The project involved work as a Design Research Consultant for Suunto Dive brand and research as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Aalto University.
I spent most of the year of 2017 conducting user research with recreational divers and dive professionals in Australia and Mexico, while also working as a Scuba Diving Instructor. Upon analyzing the results we were impressed by divers concern for the marine environment and of their interest in learning about marine life. Other intriguing results regarding divers interests and habits were also discovered.
The user research informed the Design Sprint with the Suunto dive team. I facilitated the sprint and the collaborative creative exercises, such as creation of Empathy Maps as a role play. The Design Sprint led us to develop digital service and communications concepts, where participation to marine conservation was treated as a ´service´ for divers. Environmental actions also became a part of Suunto Dive´s direction and strategy for the upcoming years.
